Birth of coal: Ene.bosque

Coal is an organic rock. It is formed from the remains of vegetation that were accumulated in very humid sedimentary environments, such as were typical in numerous regions of the Earth during the Carboniferous period (between 347 and 280 million years ago). In these zones, the remains of vegetation experienced a slow transformation in the absence of oxygen, as well as a progressive compacting due to the weight of the new remains that fell on top of them. The result was the formation of coal.


This evolution is what will be exhibited and explained in the third infrastructure facility of Ene.National Energy Museum, Ene.forest. For Ene.forest an indoor botanical garden of about 1,000 square metres will be constructed. This garden will recreate ecosystems similar to those that existed on the Iberian Peninsula during the formation of the coal seams, when it had a permanently warm and humid equatorial climate.
