Ene.National Energy Museum is a space situated in Ponferrada, the capital of El Bierzo. The Shire of El Bierzo is a place where energy has played an important role in people’s lives for centuries. The shire is situated in the west of the Province of León, has an area of approximately 3,000 square kilometres, and a population of 145,000 persons.

The current landscape of the Shire of El Bierzo reflects, in part, the effects of activities related to its mineral and energy resources. In the era of the Industrial Revolution, El Bierzo, along with the Valley of Sabero in León, were considered the Land of Coal. This was the backdrop for the first construction of railway lines that linked mining areas and industrial centres. The Province of León, and El Bierzo in particular, were witnesses to an impressive transformation in an industrial territory.
